Breastfeeding

I read an article from yahoo this morning. It's all about the importance of breastfeeding. The month of August marks the Breastfeeding Awareness Month. I'll be due in the next three (3) to four (4) weeks. I can't hide my excitement until I hug and kiss my little boy. But above anything else, I just can't wait also to breastfeed my angel in the next coming days. Now, let's take a look at these 7 Things We Might Not Know About Breastfeeding.

1) Ingredients

2)  Over 75% of mom breastfeed their babies at some point. Go Mamas!

3) Stay away, Sickness!

4) Breastmilk contains DHA, an ingredient that raises intelligence for babies.

5) Obesity and overweight.

6) Reduces cancer for moms.

7) The Righty!

It's been said that breast milk is one of the most priceless gifts you can give your baby. If you're fortunate enough to have all the milk that your baby needs, then your child is off to a good start.

Bad Eating Habits To Stop

Read this article from yahoo.she and got exactly hit by the malpractices about eating habits. I guess you too will share the same feeling after taking a sneak peak of these Bad Eating Habits To Stop.

1) Missing the Meal Train - It is unhealthy eating habit is to skip meals. Skipping breakfast is probably the worst. Anytime you skip a meal, your metabolism slows down and you're much likelier to snack on something and overeat later. Plan and make meals ahead of time so that you don't have an excuse to skip a meal. You don't have to plan elaborate meals; you can do something as easy as making a bunch of salads, making smoothies or packing fruit.

2) Multitasking Mama - Another one of the most common bad eating habits is to eat while you're distracted. If you commonly eat while you're reading, watching TV, working or anything else besides just eating, you're more likely to eat more then and later. Your brain isn't really registering that you're eating and you can end up eating and eating without really feeling full. Take a break from whatever you're doing and just eat without doing anything else, you deserve the break!

3) Potato Chip Bag Lady - If you ever find yourself eating straight of the bag or box, that is a major bad eating habit! There is no way to keep your portions under control and avoid overeating. Eating out of containers makes it so easy to overeat and most times you'll just end up regretting it. Be proactive and make it a habit to keep measured portions of snacks handy or only eat small portions on small plates. (Photo Source: http://veganfilmmaker.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/junk_food_madness.jpg)

4) Meals on Wheels - One of the most unhealthy eating habits you can have is to eat on the run. If you're the type who likes to eat while you're in the car, while working or walking around, stop now! Stop and savor whatever you're eating or drinking and take a moment to sit. Eating while you're running around is just as bad as eating while you're distracted which could result in overeating. Be conscious of what and how you're eating! (Photo Source:http://www.everydayhealth.com/diet-and-nutrition-pictures/bad-eating-habits-and-how-to-break-them.aspx#/slide-7

5) Midnight Snacker - One of the oldest bad eating habits in the book is late night snacking! Ever go out for a girls' night and you're starving from a night of dancing or just stay up late and have an out of control craving? I've definitely been there and done that even though I knew better. If you find yourself in this situation, try drinking water or tea or brush your teeth to test if you're truly hungry. If you are, try nibbling on some fruit or string cheese. (Photo Source: http://amazooo.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/bad-eating-habit.jpg)

6) Lost in Emotion - Eating when you're having a bad day or going through a tough time is definitely an unhealthy eating habit to break. Instead of turning to food try calling a friend or going for a walk. Get in the habit of doing something more productive and healthy to try to cope with what's going on. Eating while you're emotional usually leads to eating junk food in bountiful amounts which is totally unhealthy and won't even make you feel better! (Photo Source: http://lidorwriter.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/eatting-habits.jpg)

7) Competitive Eating - This is I definitely one of the bad eating habits I'm guilty of, I eat way too fast! I had to learn to slow down by putting my utensils down and taking sips of water between bites. When you eat too fast, your brain doesn't indicate that it's full until about 15 minutes into a meal so if you finish your meal before those 15 minutes, you're probably going to eat too much and end up uncomfortably full!

Now is the right time to stop. I'll start now, what about you?

My Maragusan Trip (Baguio in Davao)

This is a re-post blog from my multiply account. Just heard the news that multiply will soon change its site from a blog site into an online market site and so this transfer.

This was a trip to Maragusan in Compostela Valley Province. The trip was all about work and work which happened sometime in July or August of 2009.

The place is located in the southern part of Davao City and is approximately 140 kms away from Davao City. It's my first time ever to visit the place and with little information about it. Its former name is SAN MARINO and it's a first class municipality in Compostela Valley Province. Maragusan is known as the "Summer Capital of Davao Region" and the "Valley of Springs and Waterfalls". It has over 300 coldspring, 2 hotsprings and more than 30 waterfalls. it is a Baguio like climate and its a typhoon free area. Maragusan has Mt. Candalaga with 7,800 feet above sea level and known to have the world's largest flower - Rafflesia Mira.
One of the best hotel/resort they can offer here is the "Haven's Peak Island Resort. As they say, the visit won't be complete without experiencing the resort. I admired the breathtaking view and the mountainous scenery with the blossom of fresh air as I climbed the 200 plus steps of the almost unending staircase of the resort just to oversee the entire municipality. Climbing those stairs absolutely took away my drowsiness from the trip and renewed my strength from the stressful atmosphere of the city.

This is the front view of the resort.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

I know, even if it's not done yet, that is for sure to welcome every guest that comes along to stay.

So glad I have found this application in the net. Just take a closer look of those pictures which I collage just to save space ;-). The photo collage is a proof that I conquered the almost unending stairs. wew!

And on top, you can order food or sing in the karaoke. They have also this mini stage for night performers.

The breathtaking view of the whole municipality if you're on top of the resort.

Not much pictures of their rooms but I have a few shots below of their "model houses".

Not much more to say nor pictures to post because this is a round trip back to Davao. I hope I can still go back to the place. It's been three years already and so many changes took place along the way.

How To Get There?

Flights arriving in Davao City International Airport transit to ComVal can be done by land aboard buses at Ecoland Terminal that ply to Tagum City (1 hour travel time) and in transit to Maragusan (2 hours travel time). There are also Van rentals available from Davao or Tagum at special rates.

I have also bookmarked their webpage if you want to book online and saved their contact numbers if you want to call.

Here's the list of their contact numbers or you may click the link below to go to their official webpage for the latest scenery of the resort and it has to offer.

Victoria's Secret is an American fashion house for lingerie, accessories and cosmetic products. It was in 1977 that the company was started originally made for the purpose of making lingerie for men. It was Roy Raymond in San Francisco who founded it.

The company has has grown into a lingerie empire with more than 1,000 stores across the US and other countries around the world. It was in 1982 that it was sold to Limited Brands that it's growth as a retailer expanded materially.

Beginning in 1995, the company has held an annual fashion show, broadcast on television and featuring top models (known as "Runway Angels") sporting its lingerie and clothing collections, set to lights and music and incorporating fantasy elements such as angel's wings. Victoria's Secret spokesmodels are also referred to as "Angels" and have included famed beauties such as Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Laetitia Casta. Angels also refers to a line of clothing in the brand, along with Very Sexy, Body and Pink.

The company offers fragrances and perfumed body care products named for its clothing lines, as well as other romance-themed and lingerie-themed fragrance collections. An early line of botanical-themed body care products was successful, and some remain for sale today, such as Pear Glace. In the late 1980s, the company made a more formal venture into the perfume market. The company's earliest perfume, Victoria, was launched in 1989. The very successful Dream Angels line was launched in 2000 and is updated on a regular basis with limited editions and flankers.

Designer Victoria`s Secret has 153 perfumes in our fragrance base. The earliest edition was created in 1992 and the newest is from 2012. Hukad in Abreeza Mall, Davao City

The newest mall here in the city - Abreeza Mall. I so long to visit the place. It has been the talk of the city after it opened few months ago. Why is this place so talk about? It is because of its high end stalls/stores selling branded and expensive stuff which other malls don't have. And these stalls/stores are open only in places like Cebu and Manila. It has also restaurants that branched out here in Davao.

And speaking of restaurants, I had the chance to visit the place and ate lunch in "HUKAD". It was Nerissa's birthday, an officemate of mine. She invited us for lunch.

In HUKAD, I first noticed their lights, they are covered with plastic straps and designed just like the "puso ng saging".
Sorry, got a poor camera. A VGA camera from my phone.

The food was superb. I love their Crispy Pata and Sisig. Rice is unlimited. I forgot to get photos of these food and what I have are these ones...
Empty, that is how to describe the sizzling plate for sisig because of its mouth watering taste.

Aside from the delicious food, they have also accommodating waiters/waitresses. Since it was a birthday lunch, they sang birthday songs for Nerissa. Happy Birthday, Ner!

After eating, we walked down to get back in the office. But before riding down the escalator, we had a minute pictorial. Of course, I requested this one to document my first time visit in the place. (lol)

People are staring unto us while having our photo-shot in the escalator (wahahah!). KEBS!

I had so much fun with this an hour lunch date with my officemates. Hope this is not the last time I'll visit the place. Am not done yet as what the following picture is saying...

I will surely hit the place again. If not with my colleagues, maybe with my family and barkadas. See you around here in Abreeza Mall! ;-)

Stroke Identification

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters...S - T - R

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously...

Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics). She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(say, It is sunny out today.)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediatelyand describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke - Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this, tell this or email this to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part. Will you?

Skimboarding or Skimming

A good place to skim here in Davao City is at Mer Grande Resort in Dumoy Toril. I was able to witness how these skimboarding fanatics made their way to the waves to do their thing. So smooth and cool.

With me are Bonita, Bakokoy, Melvin, Taweng, Alit and the owner of the skim board - Loscelle.

Skimboarding or skimming is defined by wikipedia as a boardsport in which a skimboard (a smaller, sleeker version of a surfboard) is used to ride on an incoming wave. Unlike surfing, skimboarding begins on the beach, with the skimboarder running and dropping their board onto the thin wash of previous waves. They use their momentum to 'skim' out to breaking waves, which they then catch back into shore in a manner similar to surfing. Another aspect of skimboarding is 'flatland' which involves performing tricks derived from skateboarding such as ollies and shuv-its on the wash of waves without catching shorebreaks.

Posted sana more pictures but nobody wants to get hold of the camera kasi gusto lahat humawak sa skim board.

Well, kahit na nga ako gusto na ring bumili ng sarili kong skimming board. Try nyo rin, nakaka-addict, promise!
